Saxophonist/flutist Jean Fineberg has arranged eleven original tunes for JAZZphoria, her 7-women, 1-man performing octet. Covering a spectrum of grooves from jazzy funk and Latin to New Orleans R&B, the material showcases improvised solos from all the players, and is currently in rotation on more than 50 radio stations nationwide and overseas. Bluesworthy opens the album with a rollicking blues, followed by Synesthesia, an other-worldly meditative piece. Saint Mildred the Short is dedicated to Jean’s Jewish saint of a mom, Raw Bar and Dive Bar (part of the bar trilogy) recall playing in bars with crazy dancing, and exhausted musicians playing their last tune of the night. More Funner takes us to New Orleans, and the sensuous Latin Unfinished Business (written by guitarist Nancy Wenstrom and arranged by Jean) features a beautiful trumpet solo by Ellen Seeling. Whether or not you like jazz, you just may find yourself dancing to this CD.
