Sculpt Nouveau Ferric Nitrate/Ferric ChlorideThe Ferric Nitrate/Ferric Chloride Patina is designed to create a reddish brown to a dark brown on bronze, brass, and copper. Supplied as a ready to use formula, Ferric Nitrate/Ferric Chloride should not be diluted but instead applied directly to the cleaned metal surface. Ferric Nitrate/Ferric Chloride is designed to be applied to a hot surface (about 82°C – 93°C) . This patina normally will take a few coats in order to get a good coverage and works excellent as a base patina for other finishes. Ferric Nitrate/Ferric Chloride can sometimes develop a slight green hue. Please note this product is NOT the same a Ferric Nitrate. Do NOT use on Aluminium.Directions: Use in a well ventilated area. Always wear goggles or a face shield, vapor respirator, protective clothing and gloves when handling the product. Store in temperatures between 10°C – 32°C.1. Clean the metal with the Sculpt Nouveau Metal Cleaner and Degreaser and a scotch brite pad, rinse with water after a few minutes. For more consistent and better reactions, sanding or sandblasting is recommended. Cleaning the surface is mandatory after sanding or handling with bare hands.DO NOT use Acetone or any solvent based cleaners.2. Heat the metal up to about 82°C – 93°C with a propane torch then apply Ferric Nitrate/Ferric Chloride to the metal surface by brush, sponge, or spray; however, you get the patina on the metal it will react with the surface but it may show characteristics based on application method. Spraying is the most common method for even results. You should see some reaction almost immediately. Try to maintain the temperature of the metal around the 82°C – 93°C range. The patina should mist off if you are at the correct temperature. Try not to overheat the metal since that can start changing the finish.3. Re-apply the Patina as needed to achieve the look desired.
